In our pursuit to unite aquaculture researchers and industry leaders, we recently hosted a transformative series of workshops in October 2023 and January 2024. These sessions were designed to dive deep into the production challenges of Asian Seabass (Lates calcarifer), a cornerstone species in Singapore’s aquaculture landscape and the broader region.
We were thrilled to bring together a diverse group of multi-disciplinary researchers from various local Institutes of Higher Learning and Research Institutions, alongside dedicated local farmers. This unique convergence of expertise and on-the-ground experience created a fertile ground for sharing insights and pinpointing common challenges.
Our discussions illuminated several critical needs: a reliable and continuous supply of high-quality fingerlings, robust strategies to combat disease outbreaks caused by pathogens and parasites, and cost-effective nutritional solutions. Recognizing the urgency of addressing these challenges, we are excited to spearhead the development of a nation-wide Asian Seabass-focused R&D programme.
Through this innovative collaboration, we aim to deliver groundbreaking solutions that are not only locally relevant but also regionally impactful. We are confident that by working closely together, our researchers and industry stakeholders will pave the way for a sustainable and prosperous future in tropical aquaculture. Stay tuned as we chart this forward-thinking path towards revitalising Singapore’s aquaculture industry.
